Report on the third meeting of the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Gestational Weight Gain (TAG-GWG)
12-14 March 2024
Overview
In 2023, WHO established a multidisciplinary Technical Advisory
Group on Gestational Weight Gain (TAG-GWG) to advise on the development of the
GWG standards and optimal ranges. TAG-GWG advisers provide advice on the
development of a detailed research protocol, which will encompass the
definition of the study- and individual-level eligibility criteria for
determining a sample that is as prescriptive as data and evidence allow, as
well as methods and approaches for developing the global GWG standards and optimal
ranges.
The Third Meeting of the WHO TAG-GWG was convened from 12–14 March 2024 in Geneva. The objective of the meeting was for the three TAG-GWG working groups to provide updates on their work since the first TAG-GWG meeting in June 2023, but with a focus on the most recent recommendations since the second TAG-GWG meeting in December 2023, and provide recommendations on key questions proposed by the GWG Steering Committee (Annex III). The status of data acquisition and process for the second phase of the GWG project were also presented and discussed. This report provides a summary of discussions and recommendations emanating from this meeting. A list of participants and meeting agenda are available in Annexes I and II.
